This year will be my first Thanksgiving without my mom, which brings a different kind of reflection. My parents were just a couple months shy of celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary and that reminds me how valuable it is to slow down and hold onto the moments that matter most, both in life and through the images we create together.

One memory that stands out: my parents always welcomed the “strays” at Thanksgiving, people who didn’t have family or anywhere to go. Some years we’d have nearly 50 people at their house. Friends would joke it was like a high-quality Vegas buffet with all the food options. I’m carrying that spirit of gratitude and generosity forward in the New Year.

A Few Thanksgiving Reflections from Me:

What are you thankful for this year?

Family. With my mom’s passing, it’s helped us all reconnect while caring for my dad. This season, I’m especially thankful for my wife Nicole, our Mr & Mrs Golf adventures (follow along here), and our pups Sedona and Zwei, who keep life interesting. I have a job that I love, amazing clients and this year also brought a significant personal milestone: I stepped back into full ownership of Photo Fusion Studio (more here). I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead this next chapter and continue building something rooted in creativity and care for our clients.

Favorite part of Thanksgiving?

The food, of course. We’ll miss a lot of my mom’s cooking, especially her stuffing, but food is what always brought our family together. I have a sweet tooth, so desserts are my real answer.

A memory that stands out from past Thanksgivings?

My parents always welcomed the “strays”, our friends and co-workers who didn’t have family or anywhere to go. As a kid, it was sometimes annoying (to share my desserts, see above 😛), some years we’d have nearly 50 or more people at the house. People always commented on the abundance of good food. It wasn’t just traditional either, plenty of great Mexican food like pozole, tamales, tortillas, my mom’s beans, fresh seafood or game, and so much more. Friends would joke it was like a high-quality Vegas buffet.

What are you most looking forward to before the year ends?

Refocusing on what matters. Not being “busy” or wearing that as a badge of honor. Getting the studio back to putting out some higher quality photographic work, not just work that’s “good enough.” Getting back to good health and enjoying time with my wife, pups, family, and friends. Life’s too short to just work and not live it.

Looking Ahead

As we close out 2025, we’re already planning what’s next. We’re investing in new equipment, refining our processes, and most importantly, getting back to what we do best: creating images that matter, not just checking boxes.

We were honored to provide event photography for a truly special occasion: the Burgat family’s youngest son’s first birthday. This wasn’t just a party — it was a joyful, love-filled gathering with a Mini Masters golf theme, thoughtfully brought to life through stunning design, meaningful details, and a playful spirit that made everyone feel like part of something memorable.

As event photography experts, we aim to capture more than decor or details (though this event had plenty of both). We focus on the feeling — the laughter of a child, the hug between grandparents, the way parents look at their little one hitting a milestone. This celebration gave us all that and more.

Lounge seating gave people room to relax and connect, while the putting green kept kids and adults engaged in spirited play. From an event photography standpoint, this range of activity zones allowed us to document a diverse set of candid moments — from still, intimate conversations to full-on belly laughs during a putting challenge.

The flow of the event also made a difference. Spaces were organized in a way that encouraged mingling, exploration, and ease. We could follow the guests naturally from one area to the next, capturing their reactions, interactions, and transitions as part of the unfolding visual narrative.

One of the standout features of the party was the Mini Pro Shop — a kid-sized boutique stocked with custom hats, shirts, and treats that brought the Masters theme to life. Designed to mimic an upscale golf store, the shop let little guests “shop” for their own swag, adding an interactive and stylish twist to the celebration. It was a favorite stop for kids and parents alike, and made for some of our favorite event photography moments — from excited hands reaching for gear to proud grins as kids showed off their new golf looks.

Custom signage, logos, and print material by Page and Parcel and Bloom and Blue Print gave every corner of the party a polished, thematic touch — from directional signs and favor tags to table menus. Bloom and Blue Print also handled the floral design and backdrops. The florals weren’t just background filler — they were living elements of the story. Through the lens, they softened corners, framed faces, and helped turn every candid photo into something editorial-worthy.

A crafting station by Casita Curated Play gave children a chance to customize their own sweatshirts. It was incredible to see kids completely absorbed in their designs — markers in hand, tongues sticking out in concentration. As event photography experts, we love capturing moments of quiet focus amidst the chaos — they add balance and texture to the full story.

Nearby, We Facepaint created living art as children took on the roles of animals, and whimsical characters. One of our favorite sequences was a series of photos showing a child seeing their face painted in the mirror for the first time — awe, surprise, then pride.

And for the grown-ups? Lounge areas were ideal for catching up with friends and family, sharing laughs, and enjoying the moment. It’s in these quiet connections that we often find the most profound stories to tell.

The mocktail station by La Culinary Events provided refreshing, stylish drinks — beautifully garnished and picture-perfect. Their professional staff added an extra layer of polish to the guest experience, and those crafted drinks appeared in many candid frames of toasts and conversations.

For a whimsical touch, the candy wall by Unreal Snacks and Yum Earth was a kid magnet. Kids stared wide-eyed at the colorful treats, choosing with purpose and squealing when they spotted their favorite flavor. We captured close-ups of little hands reaching up, and the pure joy on their faces once they had their sweets in hand.
